Concerned about garage door security? Then the Secured by Design range is for you!
This stunning golden oak sectional garage door was installed in Yarnton, Oxfordshire for a property developer.
On the outside it may look like any other sectional door but it is actually a ‘lean, mean, crime busting machine’ which has been upgraded to Secured by Design status.
All Secured by Design garage doors are certified to CS 5051 STS202 and approved by ACPO Association of Chief Police Officers and are available in our Roller, Sectional and Up and Over ranges.
The Secured by Design upgrade for a sectional door is the ‘Novoguard Assembly Pack’. This includes heavy duty, extra strengthening brackets and springs, as seen in pictures below:
The Novoguard Secured by Design Sectional garage door is available in both manual and automated operation. For automation, the side mounted Novoguard Novoport motor is required.

#HandsOffOurHorton
Our community is reeling from the changes being made at the Horton General Hospital.
Just last week consultant led maternity care ceased and was replaced with a midwife led unit and now Oak Ward (elderly care) has also closed.
With the ever increasing population in Banbury we have never needed our General Hospital as much as we do now. If you haven’t received care from the Horton yourself you probably have a friend or relative who has.
It is incredibly concerning that our children’s ward, critical care and A&E could be next in the firing line.
On a personal note the Horton has provided emergency care to our two young daughters on more than one occasion. Both our girls have rare growth conditions resulting in needing emergency treatment and being admitted to the Horton’s Children’s Ward more times than we have liked! Mark’s parents have also received much needed emergency treatment in A&E, the Critical Care Unit and as inpatients.
We can’t begin to imagine our community without this necessary service. Our community NEEDS a fully functioning General Hospital!
So for the month of October, for all door orders received, Elite Garage Doors will donate our waste disposal fee to the Save the Horton fund as our way of supporting the #HandsOffOurHorton campaign.

Last week, BBC Watchdog featured an article about a company selling roller garage doors which were failing and then, when the customers went to claim on the warranty, found it not to be worth the paper it was printed on.
The companies mentioned in the BBC’s report are well known to us and we have been called to many customers who have had problems with these doors. Often they are beyond repair and just a couple of years after having their new door fitted customers are paying for a replacement new door.
Such stories sadden and anger us as it brings our whole industry into question. We recently replaced a roller garage door near Banbury where, despite the elderly customer purchasing an extended warranty, and being driven to the nearest town to get the cash to pay the fitters for the extended warranty, was then told it was nil and void when the door failed. We have even been told stories of salesmen attempting to pass our installations off as their own in a bid to secure business!
We wanted to reassure customers that the roller garage doors we supply are not made by this manufacturer. We work with established manufacturers such as AlluGuard, Aluroll and Novoferm.
Our roller garage doors come with a minimum five year warranty, as standard. When you purchase a roller garage door from us we will provide you with details of your warranty and, in the unlikely event of a problem arising, we will deal with the manufacturer for you. However, the information we provide you with means you could also approach the manufacturer direct if you so wished.
Both ourselves and the manufacturers we work with are members of the Door and Hardware Federation (DHF) and it was their Technical Expert who featured in the BBC’s programme.
You can read more about the DHF’s report at http://www.dhfonline.org.uk/news.aspx?NewsArticleId=188
The BBC’s full investigation can be found at http://bbc.in/2guOSuS
And you can view our completed roller garage door projects on our website at http://www.elitegd.co.uk/projects/roller-doors-projects/.
We, along with the manufacturers we work with, recommend an annual inspection for all garage doors. If you are concerned about your roller garage door and would like to book a service, call us on 01295 272370 or email enquiries@elitegd.co.uk.

The side hinged garage door range is increasingly popular with customers who prefer pedestrian access to their garage without having to open the whole door. However, side hinged doors can be expensive, especially when made to measure sizes.
To keep the door a standard size (and the cost down) we packed the opening with timber and cladded either side. The cost of the additional timber and cladding comes to less than a made to measure size door. And to look at the opening, you would have no idea.
If you would like to know more about our side hinged range, or to receive a free quotation, simply give us a call to arrange an on-site survey. If we can save you money on your new door, then we will.

“Kerb Appeal”, a phrase made popular in the early noughties by Sarah Beeny (Property Ladder) and Phil and Kirstie (Location, Location, Location), is still just as relevant a concept. We all appreciate a finely presented house and with our British love of “keeping up with the Jones’” it’s every more prevalent today.
Whilst the phrase primarily derived from vendors enhancing the look of their home to attract potential buyers, most of us enjoy taking pride in our homes and secretly would like our home to be the best dressed on the street.
Changing your front door or garage door can transform the look of your home, change both to complement one another, and your Kerb Appeal has gone through the roof!
Composite front doors such as those from Door-Stop International are still relatively new to the market but are increasingly popular. Bringing a splash of colour back to your home, without the need to be sanding/re-painting like the timber doors of old, they have a low maintenance finish, easy to look after, but really do bring the ‘wow’ factor. Whenever I am driving in a residential area a composite front door will always catch my eye.
To complement your new front door, consider a garage door to match. The range of garage doors available has never been so vast. Instead of a standard up and over or side hinged doors you can now choose fully insulated, automated sectional and roller doors, often with a surprisingly affordable price tag.
Cardale now offer over 20 colours/finishes to choose from on most of their garage door range. Then there is the window options and handle options to consider. External doors have come a long way over the last sixty years!
Chances are if you’re in the market for a new front door or garage door you probably haven’t purchased one before and with ten year warranties as standard, you shouldn’t be looking to replace it for a long time after that. So you want to get it right.
Research potential installers carefully and consider your options. You don’t need to assume that you must have ‘like for like’, there is so much choice available to you. For help and advice, speak to an experienced installer, such as Elite, who can help you navigate the brochures, give you differing solutions for your budget and supply and install both your front door and garage door to really transform your home and enhance your kerb appeal.

Make your home complete with a garage door from Elite!
What’s behind your garage door? I wish I could say an Aston Martin but unfortunately, like most home owners, the contents of my garage are far less glamorous.
What you use your garage for, what you keep inside and how you access it are important points to consider when choosing your new garage door.
Are you popping into your garage a lot? Does it house your lawnmower? The kids bikes? Maybe the tumble dryer? The answer for you could be a 70/30 side hinged garage door. With pedestrian access, these doors are perfect for when you want to pop in the garage without having to open the entire space.
Do you have visions of converting your garage to a home gym? Maybe it acts as a workshop or business space? Then an insulated roller or sectional garage door could be the answer. They provide a much tighter seal around the opening than your standard up & over and the CFC-Free foam core provides excellent heat insulation, keeping the cold out and the warm in. The insulation also acts as a sound proof so if you are working out your neighbours are less likely to hear you grunt as you ‘feel the burn’!
Perhaps your garage stores all your worldly goods and you are concerned about security? A Secured by Design up and over garage door comes with additional heavy duty strengthening ribs, heavy duty springs, secure locking brackets and a reinforced locking barrel which includes a key to lock and unlock from inside your garage. Perfect if you are especially worried about security!
Then an automated door is for you! Imagine driving home, in the pouring rain, pressing a button and sailing into your warm dry garage! No stopping, no getting out, no wrestling with the lock. A simple luxury but oh so gratifying! Roller and sectional doors often come fully automated but you can also add a motor to your existing up and over and side hinged garage door. Contact a specialist for advice.
Many of us now have larger than average vehicles, we love a 4×4 or an SUV and our poor old garage just can’t accommodate! If you’re looking to increase drive through width and height then consider a roller door which fits behind the brickwork. Assuming you have the head room required for the roll box, maximum drive through width and height can be achieved.
This option is not just for larger vehicle owners. Standard size saloon cars can struggle. One customer, after purchasing a new car, needed to fold the wing mirrors in to drive into her garage. The solution was to fit an up and over door behind the brickwork, read more in their blog post.
For a simply stunning makeover to your home consider a matching front door and garage door. With over 24 colours to choose from, numerous designs and glazing and hardware options, you can reinvent the look of your home by simply upgrading your external doors.
Then the Cardale Merlin is perfect for you! With prices starting from just £475 fully fitted, this canopy up and over garage door provides you with functionality at an affordable price. Quality is not comprised as you will receive the same ten year warranty which comes with all Cardale garage doors.
However you use your garage, whatever your budget, there is a garage door perfect for you. The range of designs, materials and finish is larger than it has ever been before. Consult with a garage door specialist to find the perfect solution for you and your home.
This garage door installation in Milton Keynes, Bucks comprises of two Cardale Bedford design up and over garage doors.
The customer contacted us after viewing similar designs by other manufacturers they knew they specifically wanted the Cardale ‘Bedford’ design.
Cardale has more than 50 years experience in the industry, they introduced the concept of the ‘panel door’ from which the majority of today’s garage door designs are derived and they were the original manufacturer to design the Bedford up and over door, the first to mimic the appearance of traditional side hinged doors.
For this garage door installation in Milton Keynes our customer chose to have one door on a canopy lifting gear and the other on retractable lifting gear. Canopy doors are the most popular style of lifting gear in the UK where as retractable provides an alternative lifting mechanism where horizontal tracks are attached to the top of the door frame to guide the door open, providing an exceptionally smooth opening and closing action.
Retractable doors are ideal for automation and so we installed a Novomatic 553 Motor to the retractable garage door, providing the customer with the luxury of operating the garage door via remote control.
The Novomatic 553 provides an ultra-reliable, near silent belt drive operator with additional courtesy light and internal quick release. The opener can be enhanced with extra handsets, mini wall mounted push button controllers, key switches and coded keypads.
The next step was for the customer to chose from Cardale’s glazing options. Bedford design garage doors come with black windows as standard. Other options include square lattice, stippled, diamond lattice, transparent and Queen Anne. Our customer chose stippled.
And the finishing touch to this garage door installation is the Aluminium Silberfarbig Eloxiert handle. Cardale up and over doors come with a black handle as standard, but if you are looking for the extra ‘wow’ factor these handles are the ones to choose.
