The side hinged garage door range is increasingly popular with customers who prefer pedestrian access to their garage without having to open the whole door. However, side hinged doors can be expensive, especially when made to measure sizes.
To keep the door a standard size (and the cost down) we packed the opening with timber and cladded either side. The cost of the additional timber and cladding comes to less than a made to measure size door. And to look at the opening, you would have no idea.
If you would like to know more about our side hinged range, or to receive a free quotation, simply give us a call to arrange an on-site survey. If we can save you money on your new door, then we will.

Our customer was looking for triple bay garage doors for their home near Moreton in Marsh. The customer wanted the look of timber but without the high-maintenance the material brings with it. The woodgrain golden oak finish looks perfect in this Cotswold setting.
They chose two up and over garage doors in a Cardale Gemini (vertical rib) design along with a Cardale Bedford side hinged opening door. For the Bedford, stippled glazing means some light comes in to the garage.
The up and over doors are automated with a Novomatic 563 Motor which comes with a five year warranty.
All fitted near Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire, GL56
Simply stunning!

Our customer wanted a matching front door and garage door for this amazing transformation on a property in Warwck, Warwickshire.
Starting with the garage door, our customer chose the Bedford. Originally designed to mimic the appearance of traditional timber doors, now available in a choice of 24 fully finished colours, here we have Anthracite Grey with a white steel fixing frame. The doors come with standard black glazing but our customer chose to upgrade to stippled windows, allowing light into the garage. Both the frame and door come with a ten year manufacturer warranty from Cardale.
Door Specification:
The GRP composite front door is also fully finished in Anthracite Grey, with a white plastic frame. The windows are also stippled, to allow light through but prevent people from seeing in and the customer chose a chrome handle and letter plate to finish the look. The locking system is ‘Secured by Design’ leaving you safe in the knowledge you have a secure front door and comes with three keys as standard.
This matching front door and garage door were installed in Warwick, Warwickshire, CV34. For your free no obligation survey give us a call on 01295 272370.
“Kerb Appeal”, a phrase made popular in the early noughties by Sarah Beeny (Property Ladder) and Phil and Kirstie (Location, Location, Location), is still just as relevant a concept. We all appreciate a finely presented house and with our British love of “keeping up with the Jones’” it’s every more prevalent today.
Whilst the phrase primarily derived from vendors enhancing the look of their home to attract potential buyers, most of us enjoy taking pride in our homes and secretly would like our home to be the best dressed on the street.
Changing your front door or garage door can transform the look of your home, change both to complement one another, and your Kerb Appeal has gone through the roof!
Composite front doors such as those from Door-Stop International are still relatively new to the market but are increasingly popular. Bringing a splash of colour back to your home, without the need to be sanding/re-painting like the timber doors of old, they have a low maintenance finish, easy to look after, but really do bring the ‘wow’ factor. Whenever I am driving in a residential area a composite front door will always catch my eye.
To complement your new front door, consider a garage door to match. The range of garage doors available has never been so vast. Instead of a standard up and over or side hinged doors you can now choose fully insulated, automated sectional and roller doors, often with a surprisingly affordable price tag.
Cardale now offer over 20 colours/finishes to choose from on most of their garage door range. Then there is the window options and handle options to consider. External doors have come a long way over the last sixty years!
Chances are if you’re in the market for a new front door or garage door you probably haven’t purchased one before and with ten year warranties as standard, you shouldn’t be looking to replace it for a long time after that. So you want to get it right.
Research potential installers carefully and consider your options. You don’t need to assume that you must have ‘like for like’, there is so much choice available to you. For help and advice, speak to an experienced installer, such as Elite, who can help you navigate the brochures, give you differing solutions for your budget and supply and install both your front door and garage door to really transform your home and enhance your kerb appeal.

Our customer chose ABS side hinged garage doors with a steel fixing frame when his garage needed an upgrade.
The ABS material is impact resistant and the perfect match to complement white PVCu windows and doors. Virtually maintenance free, the material itself is very forgiving against knocks from car bumps and footballs, giving it that ‘bounce-back’ ability. ABS is available as both up & over and side hinged garage doors.
Our customer then chose the Bedford. Originally designed to mimic the appearance of traditional timber doors, these doors have standard black glazing but there are other window options available should you wish to bring some light into your garage.
The steel fixing frame means all the old timber is removed, so no worry of it rotting. The frame and door come with a ten year manufacturer warranty from Cardale.
Door Specification:
What’s behind your garage door? I wish I could say an Aston Martin but unfortunately, like most home owners, the contents of my garage are far less glamorous.
What you use your garage for, what you keep inside and how you access it are important points to consider when choosing your new garage door.
Are you popping into your garage a lot? Does it house your lawnmower? The kids bikes? Maybe the tumble dryer? The answer for you could be a 70/30 side hinged garage door. With pedestrian access, these doors are perfect for when you want to pop in the garage without having to open the entire space.
Do you have visions of converting your garage to a home gym? Maybe it acts as a workshop or business space? Then an insulated roller or sectional garage door could be the answer. They provide a much tighter seal around the opening than your standard up & over and the CFC-Free foam core provides excellent heat insulation, keeping the cold out and the warm in. The insulation also acts as a sound proof so if you are working out your neighbours are less likely to hear you grunt as you ‘feel the burn’!
Perhaps your garage stores all your worldly goods and you are concerned about security? A Secured by Design up and over garage door comes with additional heavy duty strengthening ribs, heavy duty springs, secure locking brackets and a reinforced locking barrel which includes a key to lock and unlock from inside your garage. Perfect if you are especially worried about security!
Then an automated door is for you! Imagine driving home, in the pouring rain, pressing a button and sailing into your warm dry garage! No stopping, no getting out, no wrestling with the lock. A simple luxury but oh so gratifying! Roller and sectional doors often come fully automated but you can also add a motor to your existing up and over and side hinged garage door. Contact a specialist for advice.
Many of us now have larger than average vehicles, we love a 4×4 or an SUV and our poor old garage just can’t accommodate! If you’re looking to increase drive through width and height then consider a roller door which fits behind the brickwork. Assuming you have the head room required for the roll box, maximum drive through width and height can be achieved.
This option is not just for larger vehicle owners. Standard size saloon cars can struggle. One customer, after purchasing a new car, needed to fold the wing mirrors in to drive into her garage. The solution was to fit an up and over door behind the brickwork, read more in their blog post.
For a simply stunning makeover to your home consider a matching front door and garage door. With over 24 colours to choose from, numerous designs and glazing and hardware options, you can reinvent the look of your home by simply upgrading your external doors.
Then the Cardale Merlin is perfect for you! With prices starting from just £475 fully fitted, this canopy up and over garage door provides you with functionality at an affordable price. Quality is not comprised as you will receive the same ten year warranty which comes with all Cardale garage doors.
However you use your garage, whatever your budget, there is a garage door perfect for you. The range of designs, materials and finish is larger than it has ever been before. Consult with a garage door specialist to find the perfect solution for you and your home.
We met our customer at the Cotswold’s Moreton in Marsh Country Show last September. They were seeking new side hinged doors to replace their old barn style doors on their property in Broadway, Worcestershire.
The Cardale Steel Side Hinged range provides a choice of 15 designs and 24 colours. The benefit of steel over timber is that these doors won’t rot. They are virtually maintenance free, needing simply a wipe down with a soft cloth, no more sanding and painting every couple of years! The garage doors have a powder coat paint finish which comes with a 10 year exterior guarantee.
As Broadway’s local distributor for Cardale and Novoferm garage doors, we receive preferential pricing on the Gemini and Georgian design doors. Our customer chose the Gemini design, with vertical ribs. They also chose a 70/30 split door as opposed to 50/50. The two thirds/one third side hinged garage door was designed with lawnmowers in mind and gives you the option of just opening the smaller door to access garden equipment, bicycles etc. Our customer chose right hand opening, which is standard, but we also offer left hand opening if preferred.
Chose a 50/50 split door and we can add a motor to your side hinged door so it opens automatically at the push of a remote control button.
In addition to the easy maintenance and practicality of steel side hinged doors, you can be assured they are secure.
The centre overlap helps prevent forced entry and reduce draughts. Each door comes with four pairs of dog bolt security hinges and a high security Euro profile mortice lock. Twin shoot bolts are added top and bottom for additional security.
Doors open outwards only and door stays are also fitted as standard to prevent the door opening further than 110 degrees
The garage doors pictured here are fully finished in black and give this Broadway property a welcome face lift. Not keen on the painted finish? Our steel side hinged doors can also be produced in laminated Golden Oak or Rosewood, perfect to match in with the increasingly popular uPVC windows which many of our customers have installed.
